Jazz Musicians

Andy Kirk

An understated and undersung big band leader, from the Midwest. His two greatest players were Dick Wilson, a very fine tenor sax man who unfortunately died young, and the perpetually modern Mary Lou Williams, possibly the finest female jazz player. Bop trumpeters Howard McGhee and Fats Navarro were briefly in his band.
