The finest white jazz pianist. Worked with the likes of Charles Mingus, George Russell and Miles Davis before really launching his own career in the late 1950s. Cooler rather than hotter in his playing – very contemplative. Willing to experiment with dubbing and produced multiple piano recordings in the 1960s.
