Jazz Musicians

Erskine Hawkins

No relation to Coleman Hawkins, but a high note trumpet specialist who fronted a very good band that was consistently popular with dancers at the famed Savoy Ballroom in Harlem in the 1930s and 1940s.

He had some very interesting soloists, such as baritonist Heywood Henry and tenor men Julian Dash and Paul Bascomb (whose brother Dud played in the trumpet section).
