These pages have been put together for affiliates who have a decoware website, as opposed to the FAQ section which is for general users of this site. They contain helpful information regarding the building and maintenance of your website.
If you already have a logo or general design to your business card or letterhead then we can incorporate this imagery in your website. It is important to have the same feel to your website and printed material so that your customers become familiar with you and your product. If you do not have a current design or logo then don't worry. We want to here your ideas so that we can work with you to produce a website to your exact requirements. If you need business cards or stationery to match your website then this is no problem. Contact Martin for details.
You can select your own logo, design and colour scheme. The general layout of your website, however is set. This is because customers browsing through the DecoWare Shops need to become accustomed to how everything is layed out. This will enable them to navigate the websites quickly and with ease. Customers don't want to waste time repeatedly finding their bearings. You will probably have noticed a little square icon in the Shop websites. This is used as a device to tell customers that there is a link to another page. It is also unique to your personal Shop and is designed to reflect your particular line of Art Deco trading.
We will advise you through the design stage of your website so that you ultimately produce a site that is appealing to the eye, has the feel of your particular interest and is quickly downloading.
Ultimately you can place as much information as you like on your website. As long as the content adheres to DecoWare Terms & Conditions (with respect to non-offensive and breach of copyright material etc.) then you are free to build your site as you wish. But remember, keep your input simple, relevant and to the point. Your customers don't want to trawl through pages and pages of useless, repetitive material. Essentially they want to know (a) Who you are, (b) What you do and (c) What you have for sale. It's always a good idea to have some background information about your organisation and a short history and explanation of your specialist area and related subjects. Your customers need to know that you know about your particular field of Art Deco.
The best, and easiest, way to write your website is to flick through the other Shops that are part of the DecoWare store and see what they have done. Once you get going you will be amazed at how easily and quickly you can write interesting content that will instantly appeal to your customers. Any problems, however, contact Martin or Nick and we will put you back on track. Look at the MyottMart site. This is a very good example of what you should be aiming for.
As a general rule, once you have decided to set up online, we will quickly build your website to a standard specification. Buttons will be included with links to pages such as Home, About Us, Contact etc. All you need to do is fill in the blanks. We will include some default (standard) Terms and Conditions which you may want to tailor to suit your exact requirements. Below is a list of the 'standard package' which we feel is all you need to get you trading in Art Deco online. All Shops will contain the same sorts of pages - this will familiarise customers with the whole DecoWare shopping experience. Your written content will personalise your site so customers will revisit you again and again. Include some pictures as well to increase interest.
This will be a simple introduction as to what your website and business is about. The Home Page is the first page that your customer will see once your site is accessed. You need to write short, sharp text that will inform and intrigue your customer.
This can be a fuller version of the Home Page with perhaps a more personal slant. Your customer will be just as interested in your history as much as the history of his or her personal Art Deco interest. Why not include some pictures of yourselves?
Details of your core business or interest. Whether it be Art Deco ceramics, clocks, glass or furniture, for many reasons it is important to include some text about your speciality. Not only is this informative but it will help establish your website from a technical point of view also.
The most important part of your website. This is where customers can search for, view and purchase your Art Deco ware that you have for sale.
You may want to include some links to other relevant websites. This again is very productive for technical reasons.
Include as many details as you like to make it easy for your customers to contact you.
Those of you familiar with Ebay will have noticed many pages with the PayPal payment feature. It is straightforward to set up an online payment account so customers can pay directly into your PayPal account. Contact Nick for details. If you don't want to use this service then you can make alternative arrangements for transactions. PayPal is particularly useful however for overseas payments.
If you show at antique fairs then you will want to inform customers of dates and venues that you will be attending.
It is common web practice to include some terms and conditions. We have devised standard terms as part of the MyottMart Shop. You can adapt these to suit your particular line of business.
Your customers will be assured that their personal details are not being divulged to other companies for marketing use.
There is a complete online manual describing the administrative interface for your website. Click here to browse the manual.
Once you decide to join us please don't feel rushed in having to get online. Keep asking yourself 'what would my customers like to see on my site'. In most cases it's the same as what you would like to see on other peoples websites. If you get stuck, put what you have on the website and stand back to take stock. In most cases the way forward becomes clearer. And remember. We are here to give you advice and back up. Good trading!
